As we enter into Fall and more time spent indoors, it’s important to consider this mighty trace mineral, the vitamin that’s also a hormone, and the most recent news update important for lingering Covid effects.

Let’s begin with D3: Just as the wonderful probiotics are involved in health issues from A – Z, so is Vitamin D.  It’s actually not a vitamin, but also a very important hormone.  What’s your number?  Dr. Brouse, Dr. Norm Shealy recommends 75ng/ml as a minimum.  I keep mine around 90 which requires periodic testing.   Most test results I see are only in the 30’s.  What’s your number?

Vitamin D3 deficiency creates more widespread diseases than any other known nutrient, with significant ADVERSE influences on heart, blood pressure, skeleton and immune function, including virtually all cancers. The recommended daily intake of 400 units is equivalent to saying you need only one ounce of water daily! The safe level of D3 is 10,000 units daily for a 70 Kg person (154  pounds). For this reason I have recommended for many years that the average person take 50,000 units once a week. The minimum blood level of D3 should be 75 nmol/L and the safe level is up to 200 nmol/L. My level runs about 165.

D toxicity leads to excess blood calcium levels, which can cause serious kidney problems.

Heal Faster With Zinc

I have intentionally included zinc studies that occurred in the 70’s to indicate how long the value of zinc has been known.  Current studies include zinc supplementation for lingering Covid-related symptoms. Why? Because zinc supports healthy metabolism, energy production, thyroid function and immunity.

Gynecological surgery patients left the hospital in half the usual time when they supplemented with this vital mineral (a team of Philadelphia doctors led by Thomas V. Sedlacek, M.D.) (1942-2000)

Did you know that the zinc/copper ratio is 1:1?  And the optimal number to achieve is 100mg.  For me, I need a supplemental 50 mg; Terry requires over 100 mg.  We both have too much copper.  Where did it originate?  Is it in the soils of PA, or the water or pipes?  We don’t know.

Zinc is a nutrient that people need to stay healthy. Zinc is found in cells throughout the body. It helps the immune system fight off invading bacteria and viruses. The body also needs zinc to make proteins and DNA, the genetic material in all cells. During pregnancy, infancy, and childhood, the body needs zinc to grow and develop properly. Zinc also helps wounds heal and is important for proper senses of taste and smell.

PMC PubMed Central:  Zinc, one of the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant micronutrient found in food with well-established role in immunity, is currently being used in some clinical trials against COVID-19.

Dr. Larson, Clinical Applications of Zinc Metabolism, mentioned 14 severely burned children who needed skin grafts were not healing because of low levels of zinc.  After receiving zinc supplementation, their rate of wound healing improved.

Leg ulcers: S. Latafat Hussain, M.B. dept. of dermatology, Royal Infirmary, Glasgow, Scotland. Study on 104 patients, average healing time 77 days. With zinc supplementation, patients healed in 32 days!


Omega 3’s

Omega 3’s: decrease inflammation; improve mood; great for cardiovascular health, eye health, skin health & much more. According to Dr. Brouse, Coronary heart disease may begin as early as age 5 and need 30-40 years to show up as a pathology. Pharmaceutical-grade fish oil uses a cold-water temperature process developed in Finland – Molecular Distillation. The sardine oil (sardines have a very high concentration of Omega 3’s) is run over an absorbent material that removes lead, PCB’s and organic chemicals – 3 times on every batch.
